In such a situation, the Central and State Government are running various schemes to improve their condition and increase the income of farmers. In further improvement in this direction, the cold chain scheme and backward and forward linkage scheme have been approved by the center. This will create employment opportunities, which will provide employment to about 15 thousand people. Apart from this, about 2 lakh farmers will get benefit from the new scheme. A plan to make a new investment of Rs 443 crore has been prepared through the scheme. Information about this was given in the meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Approval Committee chaired by the Union Food Processing Industries Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
What is cold chain planning
The objective of this scheme is to provide integrated cold chain and preservation infrastructure facilities from farm to consumer without any hindrance. This will directly benefit the farmers. The project is expected to create employment opportunities for about 12,600 people. Also about 2 lakh farmers will be benefited. The project will be implemented in 10 states across the country in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Nagaland, Punjab, Telangana, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
Backward and forward linkage scheme
The availability of raw materials has to be increased under this scheme. This will also make the infrastructure strong. Eight proposals have been approved in the plan. The scheme is currently for Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
This is how farmers will benefit
Farmers’ produce under the cold chain scheme will not deteriorate quickly. Because they will be able to keep the goods safe in cold storage after harvesting. Apart from this, sorting, cutting and packaging facilities will also be available at these centers. There will also be transport facility for transporting products from cold storage to market, retail outlet facility for sale of products. It is believed that about 2,500 people will get employment opportunities in the states where the project has been approved.
