Petrol Diesel Prices Today: In the midst of rising petrol and diesel prices almost daily, today i.e. on July 18, the common man got some relief. The relief is that on Sunday, the oil companies did not increase the price of fuel. However, despite this, oil prices remain at historical levels. According to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), petrol in the national capital Delhi stood at Rs 101.84 per liter while diesel stood at Rs 89.87 per liter at the previous level. Earlier, on Saturday, petrol was increased by 30 paise per liter while there was no change in the price of diesel.

According to state-owned oil companies, Mumbai has the highest price of petrol and diesel among the four major metro cities. Oil prices vary from state to state due to Value Added Tax (VAT). The price of a liter of petrol in Mumbai is Rs 107.83 while diesel is at Rs 97.45. In Kolkata, the retail prices of petrol and diesel stood at Rs 102.08 and Rs 93.02 per liter respectively. Similarly, petrol is being sold at Rs 102.49 a liter and diesel at Rs 94.39 a liter today in the retail market in Chennai.

Petrol crosses 100 in many states

Due to the continuous increase in prices, petrol prices have gone above Rs 100 per liter in many states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bihar and Punjab. In some districts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, petrol has become costlier by more than Rs 100 per liter. Diesel has crossed Rs 100 per liter level at some places in Rajasthan, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh.

How are fuel prices decided?

State-owned oil refiners such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum revise the rates of petrol and diesel on a daily basis, based on the fluctuations in crude oil prices in the international markets and the rupee’s price against the dollar. Apart from this, other global and domestic factors are also taken into account. The new rates are applicable from 6 am every day.
