Petrol and diesel prices increased by 25-25 paise per liter for the second consecutive day on Thursday. With this, the price of vehicle fuel has reached a new height. According to the price notification of petroleum marketing companies, the prices of both petrol and diesel have been increased by 25-25 paise per liter. Petrol in Delhi has now been Rs 84.70 per liter and diesel has been Rs 74.88 per liter. On Wednesday also, the prices of petrol and diesel were increased by 25-25 paise per liter. In Mumbai, the price of petrol has increased from Rs 91.07 per liter to Rs 91.32 per liter and diesel from Rs 81.34 per liter to Rs 81.60 per liter.

Petrol prices are now at their all-time high in Delhi. At the same time, the price of diesel in Mumbai has reached a record level. Public sector petroleum companies, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) have resumed revision in vehicle fuel prices from January 6. Earlier, fuel prices were not revised for about a month.

The trend of increase in vehicle fuel prices has started again after international crude oil prices reached a high level after February 2020. However, there was some fall in crude oil prices on Thursday. Brent crude fell 11 cents to $ 55.95 a barrel. NYMEX Light Sweet crude lost 10 cents to $ 52.81 per barrel. Earlier on October 4, 2018, petrol reached a high of Rs 84 per liter in Delhi. On the same day, diesel was also at a record level of Rs 75.45 per liter.

In Mumbai too, petrol went to its all-time high of Rs 91.34 per liter on October 4, 2018. After May 2020, petrol has become costlier by Rs 15.04 per liter and diesel by 12.59 rupees per liter. The excise duty on petrol is Rs 32.98 per liter and on diesel Rs 31.83 per liter. The Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol in Delhi is Rs 19.32 per liter and on diesel is Rs 10.85 per liter.
